I thought the anxiety I had carried from the tornado that destroyed my childhood was finally under control until another killer storm ripped through the Midwest and tore my chest wide open again.

 

Then I saw the video.

 

Beautiful blonde influencer Lex Vale smiling into the camera while fresh devastation played out behind him. Turning other people’s trauma into clicks and views. It made anger prickle under my skin, I wanted to expose them, call out the toxic culture that allows people like him to profit from tragedy.

 

I never planned on my car flipping in the middle of a violent storm, trapping me upside down and bleeding.

 

And I definitely never planned on being rescued by the exact two men I came to call out.
